The National Weather Service has confirmed that at least two tornadoes touched down in Boyd County Tuesday morning.

One tornado was near Westwood starting on Daniels Fork Road. The tornado skipped along a 1.35 mile path with winds up to 110 mph, rating it an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

A trailer was flipped on Rose Road and several other homes were damaged, according to the National Weather Service.

The other tornado was rated EF-2 with 120 mph winds on Long Branch Road, about 8 miles south-southwest of Cannonsburg.

One home had its roof blown off and several barns and outbuildings were destroyed. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted.

The storm that damaged the Proctorville Fire Department along with Fairland West Elementary was deemed to be a microburst, straight-line winds that rapidly sink from the base of the cloud to the ground. Winds were estimated at about 90 mph.

Another microburst was found near Hanging Rock crossing from Greenup over to Ironton. The storm had a path length of over six miles.
