The Ohio high school football season begins this weekend, and the Jackson Ironmen are looking forward to another great year and perhaps a lot more.
It is Sweet 16 for Andy Hall. He enters year No. 16 as the head man of Jackson football, a program that has enjoyed three-straight 10-win seasons
"This senior class has been very successful throughout their career," he said. "Now it's time to break out some of the barriers we've been facing."
Jackson won the Frontier Athletic Conference last season and hosted two playoff games.
Several key players are back from 2023, including running back/linebacker Nolan Johnson, who recently committed to Army.
"Now it's kind of his show," Hall said. "We still have some guys back there that are going to be a big help for him."
Jacob Allen, a junior, heads up the offensive line and is getting several Division I looks. On the defensive side of the ball, Jackson returns seven starters.
Despite last season's splendid record and two playoff games, the Ironmen left with an empty feeling in 2023 and hope to go deeper this time around.
"We were disappointed. We lost in that second round playoff game on the last play of the game against a team, Bloom-Carroll, that had been in the state championship the year before" Hall said. "We felt like that was a game that we had an opportunity to win.
"We have not won a regional championship here, that's an ultimate goal that could lead to a state title," he continued. "We understand it's a long way to get there. We have a tough non-league schedule and our league is very tough as well."
The Ironmen will open the season in Logan, Ohio Friday against the Chieftains.
