One person has died in Plantersville in relation to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Florence, a Georgetown County official said Sunday.

According to a statement from Public Information Officer Jackie Broach-Akers, the "flood-related" death occurred overnight.

Broach-Akers cautioned citizens:

"Do not attempt to cross flowing water on roadways. As little as six inches of water may cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle. Two feet of water will carry most cars away."

Cpl. Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol told WPDE that the fatal wreck occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Plantersville Road. A pickup truck was heading south when it hit standing water, lost control and overturned.

The driver and one passenger were hospitalized, while a second passenger was killed, according to Collins. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Georgetown County planned to scale down its emergency operations at noon Sunday.

Florence has so far led to roughly a dozen deaths in the Carolinas.
