Hello everyone, I'm Gil McClanahan and I am in my second stint with Eyewitness News. From 2005-2006, I covered stories in Cabell County, Eastern Kentucky and Southeastern Ohio. After leaving to work for two other TV stations in West Virginia, I'm back to report news in Cabell and Putnam counties.
I grew up in Putnam County. In 1983, I graduated from Cross Lanes Christian School. I have a bachelor of arts degree in broadcasting from Cedarville University.
I have 20 years of experience in TV news. My first TV job was in Valdosta, Ga. Since then, I've worked as a reporter and anchor at TV stations across the South and Idaho. Some memorable moments in my career have been interviewing an Elvis impersonator, learning how to drive a tractor-trailer and standing next to a grizzly bear with just an electric fence in between. While these have been fun stories, I will never forget feeling the pain of a mother whose son was lost at sea when a commercial fishing boat sunk and the pain of a business owner in Eastern North Carolina who lost his restaurant to flooding from Hurricane Floyd.
I am an avid baseball fan. I enjoy classic country music, southern gospel, dumb comedies and James Bond movies.
My wife and best friend Connie and I have been married 20 years. We have one son, Trevor. All three of us enjoy meeting people. If you have a story idea or just want to say hello, contact me atgdmcclanahan@sbgtv.com.
