Sports Reporter/Anchor

Jason Hurst is the newest member of the Eyewitness Sports team. Jason is a Connecticut native who brings a passion for covering local sports to West Virginia.

“When I was a kid, my parents thought I had an imaginary friend. They couldn’t figure out who I was talking to. They soon realized I was turning off the volume on the TV and doing my own play-by-play coverage,” he said.

The Liberty University graduate has worked for TV stations across the country, making stops in Mississippi, Florida, Ohio, Arkansas and Illinois.

Jason is a big St. Louis Cardinals fan.In addition to rooting for the Cardinals, he’s a New England Patriots and Washington Commanders fan and still believes the Hartford Whalers are alive and ticking. Jason still has his Whalers jersey to prove it. In the meantime, he cheers on the Carolina Hurricanes, but refers to them as the Whaler-Canes.

Born and raised in a blue-collar beach town, his community still has annual oyster festivals, so he enjoys lobster rolls, clam chowder and the beach.

Jason is excited to work alongside Mark Martin and soak up all the knowledge he has to offer.

“Mark is a legend and it’s so much fun to listen to him share his stories, see his passion, it makes you want to work harder and take in everything he has to share,” Jason said. “I’m excited to now live in West Virginia, meet our local teams and fans and share your stories.”

Jason said it’s telling great human interest stories that gives him the passion to do his job.

If you have a story to share, email Jason at Jkhurst@sbgtv.com and be sure to stop by and say hello when you see him on your campus covering your favorite local team.
