KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man accused of shooting a Kanawha County deputy in the hand during a chase earlier this year pleaded guilty Tuesday.
Nathan Oxley, 44, of Sissonville pleaded guilty to attempted murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, wanton endangerment with a firearm and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm in the case of a February 2024 chase and shooting.
Oxley is accused of firing shots at a deputy during a traffic stop along Applehill Lane in the Sissonville area. The deputy was struck in the hand, but was able to return fire. Oxley was not injured in the shooting.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said Oxley refused to comply with lawful orders to surrender and non-lethal force was used in order to take him into custody.
Deputies said they initially attempted to stop Oxley after recognizing the vehicle as a suspect vehicle in an active disturbance call.
Oxley is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28.
