HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man with outstanding warrants was arrested in Cabell County Friday after being accused of stealing from a dollar store and blowing suspected opioids on an officer who responded to a shoplifting call, according to court records.
Christopher Shawn Adams, 42, has been charged with two counts of obstruction and shoplifting, forgery, being a fugitive from justice and attempting to kill by poison, jail records said.
Huntington police responded to a shoplifting call at a Family Dollar along Eighth Avenue where a man was accused of stealing candy and laundry products, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said a suspect was found hiding in a restroom at HHG Health less than two blocks away.
Police said the man was found to be in possession of a “crack pipe” and powder “consistent with heroin/fentanyl.”
The man is accused of blowing the power toward an investigating officer before being detained and identified, according to court records.
Investigators said Adams had six West Virginia warrants and an Ohio warrant with full extradition.
Records said the officer who detained Adams was evaluated and released from Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Adams is being held at Western Regional Jail on an $85,250 cash-only bail.
