Microburst confirmed in Tornado area; winds estimated at up to 75 mph

The National Weather Service in Charleston confirmed that a microburst ripped through the Tornado area Thursday evening in Kanawha County.

Winds were estimated at 65 mph to 75 mph.

Numerous pine trees were uprooted.

Most of the damage was in the area of Big Bend Golf Course.

The storm hit about 6 p.m. with such force many residents wondered if a tornado had hit.

It was extremely localized, but it was powerful, downing dozens if not hundreds of trees around the Big Bend Golf Course and damaged some homes. Photos from viewers showed damage in the Big Bend Subdivision, where a trampoline was dangling from power lines, shingles were ripped off roofs and trees torn from the ground.
