MILTON, W.Va. — Multiple hydrants in Milton are being flushed Monday in an effort to clear lines following reports of discolored water, utility officials said.
A letter from the Milton Water Office urged customers to avoid using dishwashers or washing machines during the operation.
The letter said customers that experience discolored water after the flushing process are asked to open an outside spigot or run cold water until it clears from the line. Afterwards, hot water may then be used to remove remaining sediment.
The water office said running hot water immediately after hydrants are flushed may result in sediment entering water heaters.
The utility office should be contacted by calling 304-743-3422 if lines are being cleared to request a discolored water adjustment. Affected customers are asked to note the date and time that lines are cleared when making the call.
