New Herbert Hoover High School in the final stages of being completed

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — The new Hebert Hoover high school is in the final stages of being finished.

The project has been in development since the school was flooded in 2016. Since then, students and staff have moved into portable classrooms.

Now, the finishing touches are sliding into place. Herbert Hoover High School principal Mike Kelley said the administration area and academic wings should be completed by May.

Crews have recently been busy putting ceiling tile in, lockers into place and tile in the bathrooms.

Turf has also been installed on the football field, and the athletic facilities are set to be done in June.

Kelley said they hope to have the 2023 seniors in the building before they leave, even if it is just to see the building.

"We're hopeful that we'll be able to get the kids in, at least the seniors, to look around," he said. "Possible to get them in for a couple of weeks, but it's possible that it will be the fall."

A Kanawha County Schools administrator said the only issue crews have had during the process are weather and supply delays.

Students are expected to be inside the school by fall 2023.
