CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — A special opening ceremony will be held for the new turf fields at the Shawnee Sports Complex on Tuesday.
The event will begin with a news conference at 4 p.m. and will be followed by exhibition games on all six turf fields featuring several local teams and athletic clubs.
At 7 p.m., Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. will perform the National Anthem prior to the West Virginia Chaos playing its final game of the season on field one.
The event will conclude with a fireworks show that is sponsored by the city of Dunbar.
The special event is free and open to anyone. There will also be a variety of food and beverage vendors.
Parking will be available in several locations including the new Shawnee multi-sport parking lot off King Street, and the parking lots in front of the old Shawnee Park Clubhouse. Additional parking with shuttle service to Shawnee Park will be located at West Virginia State University at Lot C off Barron Drive. A KRT shuttle bus will pick up and drop off beside Ferrell Hall.
The Shawnee Park Pool will stay open until 9 p.m.
