Paddling enthusiasts expected to flock to annual Tour de Coal

Anyone who has been itching to put a paddle in the water has an opportunity coming up.

The Tour De Coal, an 11-mile float trip on the Coal River from Tornado to St. Albans, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, according to information posted on the Coal River Group’s website.

Beginning at Meadowood Park in Tornado, the Tour De Coal is a fundraiser that helps fund the Coal River Group’s river cleanups, restoration and educational activities.

Below is a look at last year's event:

People can register in person at the Coal River Group River Center from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Coal River Group Center.
