CHICAGO (TND) — Pro-Palestinian protests disrupted the Democratic National Convention again on Tuesday, this time taking over a DNC "Women’s Caucus" event.
Groups of masked pro-Palestinian protesters have tried tocrashDNC events and organizemarches to advocate for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The Chicago-based advocacy group "Direct Actions for Palestine" took responsibility for some of the actions, describing them as part of its “hell week” proceedings.
Video from Chicago-based reporter Mary Ann Ahern shows protesters at the DNC Women’s Caucus meeting wrestling with a uniformed security guard. They held banners and chanted “stop killing women in Gaza.” The guard appears to escort protesters away from the scene.
Some event attendees appear to drown out the protesters with chants of “USA!” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was reportedly in attendance at the event.
In a statement to The National Desk Monday, the DNC said it will "respect the work to protect the right to free speech, while ensuring a safe convention for all participants."
Several delegates at the DNC have elected to become “uncommitted” in protest of the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the ongoing war in Gaza.
"Vice President Harris supports the deals currently on the table for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and for the release of hostages," the Harris campaign said in a statement. "She will continue to meet with leaders from Palestinian, Muslim, Israeli and Jewish communities, as she has throughout her vice presidency."
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., will not attend the DNC this week, he said in an interview with The Free Press. The senator has been a vocal supporter of Israel, a stance which conflicts with his Democratic colleagues.
Speaking to this, Sen. Fetterman told the publication “I keep saying, just like the convention, it’s not about me.”
“One of the great backstabbers in modern Democratic politics is John Fetterman, but I’m going to wait until after the election to deal with him,” longtime Democratic strategist James Carville grumbled via his podcast. “He’s somebody that must be dealt with and must be dealt with in real time.”
