HURRICANE, W.Va. (WCHS) — Putnam County residents gathered Thursday to support young athletes who traveled out of state for a regional competition.
A Hurricane Little League team made the trip to Warner Robins, Georgia, for a matchup against Virginia all-stars after claiming a state championship.
Back home, a watch party was organized at Bubbarino's Bites and Bubbles where restaurant management pledged to donate a portion of sales to support the team.
Owner Xander Wagner said area residents are fired up watching a team that represents Hurricane.
"The energy is high and the coaching is great. The morale is great with this team," Wagner said. "I'm not surprised. That's typically how Hurricane sports are. I'm honored to watch them play in a big game like this."
The matchup was broadcast on ESPN+.
